Mark Terry

Mark has been producing science and nature documentaries for the past 20 years. Mark’s adventurous spirit has brought him to film exotic locations on all seven continents, but none more impressive to him than the polar regions. After a trip to Alaska in the mid-1990s, Mark fell in love with the majestic beauty of the landscape. Subsequent trips to Alaska and the Canadian Arctic inspired Mark to get involved with northern research programs.

Focusing on climate change research in the polar regions, Mark’s last two films – The Antarctica Challenge: A Global Warning and The Polar Explorer – have been international best-sellers winning more than 30 international awards and staying on the Top 20 Best-Sellers list in the US for three straight years.

Working closely with the world’s scientific community in Antarctica and the Arctic earned him the recognition of the United Nations Environment Programme in 2008. His last two films –– were made in partnership with the UNEP and both premiered at the Climate Change Conferences in Copenhagen and Cancun.

Mark Terry is a Fellow International member of The Explorers Club and recipient of the Canadian chapter’s highest honor, the Stefansson Medal, for his international field work “documenting our natural world”.

As well as a Community Leader for the David Suzuki Foundation, Mark is also the 2011 winner of the Gemini Humanitarian Award, presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television in recognition of his work with the United Nations with his documentaries.

Mark’s current film project – Youth Climate Report – premiered at the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development earlier this June. It is the first of a series of films showcasing the latest in climate research from around the world as reported by students. Once again partnering with UNEP, updated versions of this film will be showcased at all UN environmental conferences throughout 2012 and beyond.

As a member of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, the Russian Geographic Society, the Canadian Council for Geographic Education, the Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communication, and the University of Alberta’s Northern Research Network, Mark lectures and speaks regularly about the environmental issues affecting the fragile eco-systems of the polar regions and, by extension, the world.

Julie Daniluk RHN, bestselling author of Meals That Heal Inflammation (Random House Canada), has helped thousands of people enjoy allergy-free foods that taste great and assist the body in the healing process. She is also the co-host of the Oprah Winfrey Network’s Healthy Gourmet, a reality cooking show that highlights the ongoing battle between taste and nutrition.

After four years of rigorous theatre arts training at George Brown Theater College, Julie found herself reading more about nutrition than Shakespeare. She had an insatiable appetite for figuring out how and why food affects our health. She went back to school to become a nutritionist and graduated from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. Julie then went on to become a co-operative owner of one of Canada’s largest health food stores, The Big Carrot Natural Food Market, where she acted as the Chief In-Store Nutritionist for over 12 years. Julie was also on the board of the Canadian Health Food Association in 2000 and 2009.

Julie has studied Culinary Arts at George Brown College and herbalism at Emerson Herbal College.

Julie’s food activism has led her to speak to the Canadian Federal Government in Parliament about the potential health risks of genetically modified food. In order to bring food advocacy issues to a wider audience, Julie has been the event producer for festivals such as Bio-Diversity with David Suzuki and FoodShare’s Field to Table Festival.

Julie’s search for nutritional understanding has taken her around the world. One of her greatest joy to date has been cooking on the Greenpeace tall sailing ship, The Rainbow Warrior, during its GE-free New Zealand tour.

She enjoys contributing to various publications such as Chatelaine, Readers Digest, Vitality, and Alive magazines. Julie is regularly featured as a health expert on the CTV’s Marilyn Denis Show and has a weekly spot as the CTV News Network’s nutritionist.
